interview  &

      image creation!

if you have access to a computer, and powerpoint, soundcloud, or voicethread, and possibly skype, you will record your interview this evening and work on your image creation during class today.

if you do not have access to these things, you will record your interview today during class time with a school ipad and a school staff member of your choice. You will begin work on your image creation tomorrow.

  interview:

Organize yourself first. Make sure you have your question(s) at your side, pen and paper to take extra notes, and arrange a rather quiet space for recording.

Take a moment to focus, relax, and enjoy this experience!

Make the call and let things flow how they choose to!

Keep an eye on the clock and tell your interviewee that you hope to have a 10-15

minute conversation, and to keep things casual!

To record using PowerPoint.

Title and save it to start.

Go to the top right of the toolbar. Look for the word "media" that has a film strip and speaker  icon.

Click that and select "Record Audio..."

You will select simply press "Record" when you begin to call, and after you hang up press "Stop"

make sure to press "Save" before closing the box!!!!!

Now your audio will show up on the slide as a small speaker icon.

Make sure to save the PowerPoint again!

If you will be recording using SoundCloud, or VoiceThread, first register for an account if you do not already have one. it is quick and free!

To record using SoundCloud, simply go to the top right corner of your profile screen, and click "Upload." Choose "Start New Recording" and simply click record when you begin and stop when you are finished.

** you may need to approve access to your camera/microphone, simply choose "Allow."

Next, choose "upload your recording" and wait for it to fully upload. It will now be saved on your profile and you can access it again from a computer at school tomorrow.

Here's a short video tutorial on creating an account and uploading a recording on SoundCloud if you need more assistance!**use an email for your account instead of Facebook like the tutorial example. ---->  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FesST-MPaN8

You also have the option of using Skype to make a video or just audio call with your interviewee if they do not live with or near you!

Remember to have a PowerPoint, SoundCloud or VoiceThread pulled up on the screen recording as you have your Skype conversation!

 image creation:

Like the examples from story corps that we saw on Day 1, we want some sort of visual to              be paired with the audio of the interview. For this, you have several options!

One option is to create a drawing using pencil, pen, or  colored pencil that we will scan in and add to the recording.

Another option is to create a sculpture or ceramic piece that you will take a photograph of with a school provided camera or your phone, then upload the image and pair it with the recording.

A third option is to create a collage full of images, colors, materials and textures. you will also photograph this piece and upload it. The collage can, and is, encouraged to have 3-D elements.

The image can show yourself interviewing your person either sitting together in person in any sort of environment, or it can show the conversation being held over the phone.

The image can show a scene from a story that is shared with you or a certain memory you share with one another.

The image can also be very speciific. If the story or memory involves a yellow lamp, you may re-create the yellow lamp. If the story takes place in a certain city, town, or neighborhood, you can focus in on that.

                             Don't feel limited!

The most important element is the connection, both to who you interview and yourself               with your artwork.

I want you to feel unlimited in your art making process, because the more you enjoy                  yourself and have interest, the more invested you will be!

Unfortunately, this website platform does not allow me to upload PowerPoint presenations, so my examples are in various other formats. I have a soundcloud recording, an i-Movie, a YouTube slideshow of my artwork and process, as well as a document containing images. The audio is slightly lower in quality due to not using my original PowerPoint like you all will be doing. Hope seeing these variations of examples help to some degree! Just remember, we are aiming for you all to have your final projects in PowerPoint. However if you run into issues, making an i-movie or YouTube video with both the interview audio and displaying your artworks can be a back-up plan!
